Karl opened the meeting and asked for updates from each board member.
Audrey (PAL)- there was a women’s bike group started. Several questions were raised about how the riders were selected and the amount of notice that was publically put out. Audrey will be asking questions regarding our concerns and getting back to us. She would also like to have different bike events during the month of May (various types including mountain, road, etc.) and will advertise this on her brochure so please contact her if you are interested. Also, on May 1st PAL will be putting on the BikeTown event, which the Freewheelers have supported financially throughout the years. This was discussed and due to our current budget, decided to wait and vote on in the month of March.
Larry Hart- he discussed and helped us understand how in opening the new FCA, we can move money from one to the other to help offset costs and bring our budget out of the “red” if we need to. He also recommended that at several rides that FW sponsors, we could add a dollar or two to help offset the cost that FW incurs to also help with our budget constraints.
Cheryl- she would like to have a bicycle education event each month. This month, Bicycle Time located on Hwy 9 in Boiling Springs is giving a free clinic on tire changing. The event is free and begins @ 6:00 pm. It is sponsored by the Freewheelers.
Andrew- he is looking into combining his championship races. He stated that except for one other place (in CA), he buys more medals than anyone in the US. He will keep us updated on the progress.
Paul- he will be attending a meeting in Washington, DC on March 10-12th regarding cycling issues. He is still waiting on final plans from the DOT for the Strategic Safety Plans that he spoke about last month.
Johnny- he is looking for upstate mountain bikers to help out with the Stump Jump in May. If you or know of someone that may be interested, contact him!
Karl- he advised us about an upcoming project on the Hwy 9 Bridge. This should begin as soon as the work on the California Ave Bridge is complete, and is SUPPOSED to take 45 days. We should be getting updates as this progresses.
No further news. Meeting adjourned.
