AOMM Training Ride Sunday 4/10

The forecast for tomorrow in Landrum is looking tough for a bike ride – high of 55 with wind chills in the high 30’s / low 40’s all day due to winds in the 20-25 mph range. I’m going to move the ride to Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm and do the same ride as originally posted. I may decide to add either a climb or miles to the route depending on how I feel for those interested.

Not sure if Paul White will still lead a B group version of this ride Sunday but hopefully he will post and let his group know.

When: Sunday 4/10/16 at 2:00 pm – This the planned time to start so please make an effort to arrive in time to get ready prior to 2:00 pm

Where: Inman First Baptist Church parking lot – 14 North Howard Street, Inman SC 29349. Take Hwy 176 from Spartanburg, cross over I26 and go about 3 miles and take a right on Hwy 292 to downtown Inman (maybe ½ mile). The church is across the RR tracks on the right from downtown Inman.

Ride info: 62 miles and 4620’ of climb (according to the Ridewithgps file). This route leaves Inman and heads to Tryon where we’ll do the Saluda Grade and Hogback climbs before heading back to Inman.. We will do the usual steady moderate Saturday eRide pace between climbs which with the terrain we’ll be on should be in the 17-18 mph average speed range. The Saluda Grade and Hogback climbs will be at your own pace with regroups at the top. Figure a total ride time of 4.5 hours including a store stop in Tryon. Route at the bottom of this email.

Store stop: One planned.

SAG: None planned at this time – Please come prepared to be self-sufficient which would include equipment to change a flat, cell phone, cue sheet, etc……

The rides will be what we consider A / B level rides. In general we will ride at a steady moderate pace between climbs with the climbs at your own pace. We will regroup at the top of climbs before proceeding. If you are unsure about your ability to do a particular ride please contact me before the ride and I’ll try to help you decide. We try to help everyone but if you are obviously having trouble maintaining contact with the group we will recommend you turn back or proceed on your own. There are sometimes sections during a ride where the group tends to string out before regrouping. Please be patient during these sections as we will regroup at the usual spots. If you get behind just stay straight to the regroup point.

Try to remember that these are group rides and we often have to adjust to changing circumstances so everything may not happen exactly as planned or as you would like. If you come looking for some training and a fun social atmosphere with friends then you should leave happy and tired at the end of the ride.
